The .aamt specification is public and the code is source-available. The code, the runtime and the models are free for individuals, research and small teams; everything else is licensed. This page summarises the terms. The licence texts themselves govern.
The three licences
All three share the same free-use rules, so one registration covers your organisation for all of them:
- Personal use, not for an organisation and not to earn money — free, no registration.
- Non-commercial research and education at an accredited institution or non-profit — free, no registration.
- Evaluation by any organisation for up to 60 days — free, no registration.
- Small organisations with less than US $1M revenue, less than US $5M raised, and fewer than 25 people, for internal use — free, after registering below.
Hosting or serving to others, a product you sell, a competing runtime, embedding in a device, or redistribution always needs a commercial licence, whatever your size.
Do I need a commercial licence?
- 1.Will you host, serve or convert .aamt models for anyone outside your organisation, or sell a product that uses .aamt code, the runtime or the models?
- 2.Are you building a runtime, converter or model-distribution product that reads, writes or runs .aamt files?
- 3.Will you embed .aamt in hardware, a device or another product, or redistribute it?
- 4.Has your organisation crossed US $1M in annual revenue, US $5M raised, or 25 people?
- 5.Is this for an organisation at all (rather than you personally, or non-commercial research)?
Register for free
For small organisations. The licences require this before your first production use. If you later cross a threshold, you have 60 days to move to a commercial licence.
Commercial licences
Teams using .aamt code or the runtime in their own products and internal production systems.
On-premises, air-gapped and regulated deployments, with indemnity, security patches and an SLA.
Embedding .aamt in hardware, an operating system or another product; redistribution; serving to third parties.
Production use of the BeyondSight models, separate from the runtime. Custom fine-tunes available.
Certification for other runtimes and tools that read or write .aamt: conformance suite, the mark, a listing.
Pricing is quoted on request, and grows with you.
AAMT Compatible certification
Anyone may read the specification. To describe a runtime or tool as “AAMT Compatible”, or to ship it commercially, it must pass the conformance suite and hold a certification licence.
Patents, copyright and trademarks
The .aamt format and software implement methods covered by pending patent applications owned by Weslyn Cory Whitehead Jr. / AsAManThinks Research. The specification is licensed under CC BY-ND 4.0, which covers its text only and grants no patent licence. The licences above grant a limited patent licence for the free uses they permit; no other patent licence is granted, expressly or by implication.
The AsAManThinks books and the AAMT Mathematics series are copyrighted works of the author. A licence to a paper or a book covers that text, not the methods it describes. “.aamt”, “AAMT Compatible”, “BeyondSight”, “AsAManThinks” and “MaiiaM” are trademarks of AsAManThinks Research.
